A veterinary practice got in touch with two faulty 3M Mini-Driver air tools at the same time, both needed back in service quickly so emergency surgeries weren't held up. One had a loose bezel causing the linear cutting attachments to wobble, while the other was intermittently failing to lock accessories in place, causing tools to drop out mid-use.
With two units down at once, the practice was at risk of having to postpone procedures. Each tool had a different fault, so both needed proper diagnosis rather than a single quick fix. The previous repairer the practice had used was also slow and expensive, so cost and turnaround time both mattered.
The first unit turned out to be a relatively straightforward job — a general clean, realigning the loose bezel, and tightening everything back up. This was returned to the practice immediately so they could get on with an emergency procedure that had just come in.
The second unit needed more work. We stripped it down fully and found the accessory-locking mechanism was clogged with an accumulation of dirt and grime from regular use. Everything was thoroughly cleaned with the correct solutions, then reassembled and tested repeatedly with several different attachments to make sure it locked reliably every time.
Both units were repaired and returned working as good as new. The total cost came in well below what the practice had paid previously for similar repairs, and the turnaround was a fraction of the time they'd experienced before — meaning less downtime, more procedures completed, and a happier customer all round.
