A customer got in touch because they wanted to display a business dashboard on a large screen in the MD's office. The goal was simple: bring some healthy competition to the team by showing call statistics from their agents. The trouble was, what they had wasn't really a dashboard at all — it was a plain table, and there was nothing fun or engaging about it.
The team had no easy way to wirelessly share a screen from their laptops, and dedicating an expensive laptop just to display a screen felt like overkill — a sledgehammer to crack a nut. We looked at a few options before settling on a Raspberry Pi based approach.
The bigger issue, though, was the data itself. A raw table of call statistics simply wasn't interesting or easy to read. For the project to succeed, the team needed to actually want to look at the dashboard, and be able to instantly see how they were doing compared to everyone else.
We built a custom process to pull data directly from the customer's 3CX phone system into a secure cloud environment. From there, we could shape it into a clear, engaging dashboard — and because we had full control over the data, we were able to add extra dimensions that weren't available in the original table, such as average talk time.
Once built, the dashboard could be accessed directly from the office Smart TV without needing the Raspberry Pi at all, making the overall solution simpler and more cost effective.
