If you've ever moved house or office, you'll know the anxious wait for an internet connection to be installed. A good friend and customer got in touch when the fibre line to his new office had been damaged before he'd even moved in, with a repair timeline stretching into months — and a business that relies on the internet for everything from phone calls to working with large 3D models and video.
The new office needed to be fully operational immediately, but the only permanent fix — repairing the damaged fibre — was months away. Rather than simply renting one of our temporary units, the customer wanted a solution he could keep permanently: a reliable backup connection he could also take with him when travelling.
We built him a portable 5G router setup paired with an external MIMO antenna, since reception at the site was poor. We also loaned one of our pole systems to get the antenna extra height — height being one of the most important factors in establishing a strong cellular link. That extra elevation made all the difference, taking the connection from barely usable to a point where the customer assumed the fibre had already been fixed.
The system ran faultlessly for months, to the point where the customer questioned whether he even needed the fibre line at all. It's hard to put an exact figure on the value of getting the office online immediately, but factoring in lost revenue, wasted staff time, and ongoing costs, the impact likely runs past £100,000.
